Our Mission

Access to our community is dedicated to safeguarding the rights of marginalized refugee communities right to safe and affordable housing in South King County. We are dedicated to social justice by going against systems that perpetuate inequality, violence,  racism, and discrimination in housing. At ATOC, we strive to be active in our community and do so by attending town hall meetings, doing outreach at faith based organizations, and canvassing within low income communities in South King County.

Our goal is to educate our community about their rights as tenants and connect them to relevant resources that exist in King County in order to uplift them from their plight.  Our services are available in multiple languages, including Somali, Amharic, Tigrinya, and Oromo to ensure that language is not a source of marginalization used to intimidate or keep people out of the know, but one of liberation and empowerment. In doing, so we are able to leverage the community for knowledge  to better serve their needs and encourage engagement with our program and services. We promote civic engagement through collaboration with community members to develop a language of understanding that provides participants with the tools and support necessary to build the confidence to navigate systems that are built to keep them out. Our communities, often being made up of immigrants and refugees, are used to being treated as second class citizens and it is our duty of ATOC to shift the narrative in a positive direction.
